Employers must fulfil program requirements for both high and low paid positions, this includes paying the current wage rate for the job in the place where work will be performed undertaking important recruitment and promotion requirements for the stream.
Employers are required to use the median hourly wage for both low and high skilled job roles based on the province/territory and location. The job roles being offered, pay and location are the deciding criteria for whether an employee will need to apply for LMIA under the stream of low or high wage positions.
High-Wage Position
The stream for high wage positions has allowed employers to hire temporary foreign workers on a full-time basis (at least 30 hours a week) where the current wage rate is equal to or above the provincial/territorial median hourly wage rate where the job is to be performed.
Employers still must meet all the requirements of the stream for high wage workers.
The current wage rate is determined by the job role requirements and duties that are defined under that particular job title in the NOC. After deciding whether to hire a TFW for a high wage position, the employer must ensure that he meets all requirements for that particular stream.
Low-wage position
The stream for low wage positions has allowed employers to hire temporary foreign workers on a full-time basis (at least 30 hours a week) where the current wage rate is below the provincial/territorial median hourly wage rate where the job is to be performed. Employers still must meet all the requirements of the stream for low wage workers. The current wage rate is determined by the job role requirements and duties that are defined under that particular job title in the NOC. After deciding whether to hire a TFW for a high wage position or a low wage position the employer must ensure that he meets all requirements for that particular stream.
